I have a web application with a login page - login.aspxin which there are two text fields: username and password.
Users have been using it for many years, and many of them have used a browser tool to store their password, so they do not need to constantly type it.
Now I reworked the login page and you need to replace the old one.
The problem is that I do not want user passwords to be lost. Some of them (sigh!) Cannot remember their passwords and rely on the browser filling them for them. Now I understand that these users are stupid, and it seems reasonable for them to remember one password. But my client is adamant that they will not and think that they will go to another place if they cannot log in immediately.
So how can I make sure old passwords are saved? What do browsers use to determine if passwords should be applied to a specific field?
NB I have to mention that I am primarily interested in Internet Explorer, since that is what most of our users use.
