Server Server Firewalls

Unable to connect to SQL Server 2012 through the router firewall. I opened ports 2382 for SQL Browser and 1433 for SQL Server. I can connect from the server to myself with the LAN IP address, but not using the external IP address of the router. I got some good information from this question.

Opening ports for server instances

I use the port of the instance they mentioned, and it works as well, but only if I connect from the server to myself using ...

Data Source = 192.168.1.2,49867; Network library = DBMSSOCN; Start Directory = Characters;

I also cannot connect from another computer on the local network. Which seems strange. Just in case, I turned off the Windows firewall on the server.

Thanks for any info!

Check if "Allow remote connections to this server" is allowed under "Server Properties → Connections" in SSMS
