From Android Tips and Tricks for Android , at developer.android.com:
Debugging
When you create and run the application with Android Studio, you can view adb and device log messages (logcat) in the DDMS panel by clicking the Android button at the bottom of the window.
If you want to debug your application using Android Debug Monitor, you can launch it by clicking "Monitor" on the toolbar. Debugging monitor where you can find a full set of DDMS tools for profiling your application , controlling device behavior and much more. It also includes hierarchical viewing tools to help optimize your layouts.
So, you tried to press the monitor button? It looks like a little green android. From there you can use all the usual tools.
As for the downvote, I can only assume that this was for one of two reasons. Your question begins with βWhat would be the best way ...β, which is the flag of the question of opinion in most eyes. Most likely, however, you do not show any signs that you yourself were looking for an answer. The answer is verbatim from a very prominent documentation page and possibly even a tooltip in AS if you check the toolbar icons.
