How to sign an Android APK that was created using PhoneGap Build?

PhoneGap Build seems like a great tool, and I created .apk with it and tested it on several Android devices.

Now I need to send it to the Google Play store, but I need to sign apk.

I read everything about signing .apk on the Google developer site, but it seems to me that I need to install the Android development tools and use Eclipse. I installed it, but I cannot find a way to import my .apk, so I am stuck.

I don’t understand - what is the point of building PhoneGap?

This is all very dull. The application is ready to work, but ...

It was a decision.

I got Android dev kit - http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

From there, I used this video to get KeyTool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaXE2FUENFI

From there, I can create a KeyStore. Make sure that you save the alias and password record (I wrote them down and did not store them on any electronic device) and the location of the key store.

When you work in PhoneGap Build and you pull out files from GitHub (that’s how I do it) after the build is complete, you will see a drop-down list. Select "add key" and load the keystore.

Note. The keystore is usually locked. You must unlock it in order to build with it. It only remains unlocked for one hour.

Now you will create a PhoneGap Build apk application with -release instead of the usual -debug.

Now it is ready for download on Google Play!

Build! :)

I never used PhoneGap or signed apk, but found this on phonegap.com website:

https://build.phonegap.com/docs/config-signing-android

It looks like you can just add your signature key ( How to get it ) to your phonegap account , and when you create a version of your application using the PhoneGap assembly, they sign it.

You need to specify the Title, Alias and Keystore file to build PhoneGap.

  • Create a private key using keytool (comes with the Java SDK, so there is no need for Eclipse)
  • In the next PhoneGap build, be sure to enter the information in the Settings> Add Key section
  • PhoneGap Build takes care of the rest.

As for keytool, someone else gave a short and sweet description on how ...
