How to set UITableView data source in code

I know this question is other places in stackoverflow, but none of these solutions worked for me. I have two tabs with table views in which I want to use the same data source. The first tab view controller is a subclass of UITableViewController . The second is a simple UIViewController with its table view set to IB. I initially set up the view controller initializer to take the data source as an argument, but since it was so strong, I tried to simplify the situation by simply highlighting it in my view controller. I have a Table View and datasource configured as follows:

My program is always reset whenever I: [self.tableView setDataSource: data]; I tried to put this line in the viewDidLoad method, but my program still crashes. Here is my viewDidLoad method:

My first view controller is working fine. It also loads data, so I do not believe that I made a mistake in my data source object. But every time I click on the second tab, the program crashes immediately. This does not fail if I do not mention the data source assignment statement.

 'UITableView dataSource must return a cell from tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath:' 

This is what causes your application to crash. Something in the logic of your tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath method tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath does not return a UITableViewCell . Everything is indicated in this log message - A UITableViewCell must be returned from tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath:
