Error with GlassFish 4 and Eclipse Juno JavaEE

I downloaded Eclipse Juno a while ago, but so far have only used its Java SE perspective.

Today I downloaded GlassFish 4 for Windows and installed it. During the installation, I got a screen that showed that the installation process did not find the Java JDK, but allowed to view it. I found the directory C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_17 and selected it. I finished the installation and was able to start and stop the domain and see both the application pages and the admin.

I also wanted to install the GlassFish plug-in for Eclipse . I found it through the Marketplace and downloaded and installed it.

I switched the Eclipse perspective to JavaEE and tried to select GlassFish as the server. This option really was. However, after that I got a screen called New GlassFish 4.0 Runtime with the following error:

Glassfish server uptime requires full JDK instead of JRE

Only the activated buttons are Back and Cancel.

I figured out, but did not find anything useful for such a case.

Can anyone guess what might have happened and suggest troubleshooting steps?

On the screen where you define the GlassFish runtime, there is a link that says "Installed JRE settings." If you click on this, you will be redirected to a screen showing all the JRE and JDK installations that Eclipse knows about. You will need to add an entry to install the JDK. Then, when you return to the GF screen, select this new entry in the JRE drop-down list.

1) make sure jdk is installed. Take a look at C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.XXXX

2) Go to Window > Preferences . Then under +Java+Installed JREs click Add.

  • Select 'Standard VM' then Next
  • JRE Home = C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.XXXX
  • the rest should be filled in automatically.

3) Still in the Preference Window -

  • Get +Server, Runtime Environments
    • Select add selected glassfish 4 (for example)
    • In the JRE, select the new jdk added in step 2.
    • In the Glassfish server directory, select the path where you install GlassFish, in my case: D:\glassfish4\glassfish

4) Restart eclipse.

I also ran into the same problem. The "Installed JRE Settings" link is not available.

Click "Manage Eclipse Java Runtimes"
Add the jdk version, you can also search for the jdk installation using the "Search" button. If jdk is not installed, you need to install it first.
