Matlab MCR Expired

I have Matlab compiler runtime installed on my machine. It worked fine, but now when I run some kind of code that he needs, I get this error:

Failed to initialize MCR instance: the specified component has expired.

I thought MCR was basically a free download, but now I wonder if I have a trial version or something like that, although as far as I can see, nothing is said about this on the Matlab download site.

Has anyone had the same problem?

Yes, the executable may expire, but not the MCR. Say your colleague had a trial license for MATLAB Compiler, and he compiled an executable file. He went to distribute the executable to you. This executable will only work for 1 month. In the past, the executable file expires.
