Whenever I see someone asking a question and posting an old version of Joomla, as a rule, the first thing I say is “Upgrade to the latest version of Joomla (1.5.26, 2.5.26 or 3.3.5) depending from being 're on) ". I do not need to explain why it is important to update to the latest version, but I will be for those who have old or absolutely ancient versions. 2 reasons to upgrade:
- Correct mistakes
- Fix Security Issues
If I were designing a site, I personally would not want any errors, such as some functions that do not work in certain cases. I also do not want any security threats, and therefore I ALWAYS keep my version of Joomla up-to-date. Of course, it is never 100% protected, so I also use several security extensions to be safe.
Take this update for example:
Joomla 2.5.5 added 11 new features, fixed 2 security problems and 113 problems with the tracker. I believe that a fairly large update therefore downloaded it the day it came out.
If you use 1.5.26, this is not a problem, and I don’t see that updating to 2.5 "should do", however, it is certainly recommended to do this, first of all, to increase security, and also note that most (Decent hosting providers update the version of PHP on their servers, and as soon as they update it to PHP 5.4, you are a Joomla 1.5 site
Some people also said that their site was hacked and they use Joomla 1.5.16 (for example). Well, if you upgraded to the latest version and took precautions, this might not have happened.
Obviously, I do not demand that you all be up to date, but I consider it a necessity and consider it stupid if you do not. Especially if the site is intended for the client.
