Invalid request when adding domain to Google app

I am trying to “Add a domain” to the Google application that I have. https://developers.google.com/appengine/articles/domains describes how to do this. On the Application Device page Administration → Domain Settings → Add Domain I entered my domain name after “choosing an account” and supplying my password, it returns the “Google Accounts” page with the message “Invalid request” - - not very useful.

I am trying to use / add a domain that I have, but Google has not heard before. The limited document talks about "domain registration" with Google applications, but it does not say how to do it. They mean that you can only add domains that google already manage? (I do not see how they can manage my domain to receive requests from it directed to their server farm.

How do I fulfill my requests for a response to Google for the domain that I have?

After clicking the "Add Domain" button, you will see "Domain Name" on the left and "Register for Google Apps" on the right.

Click Sign Up for Google Apps

You may need to create a new Google Apps account and connect it to your domain provider.

Adding other Google domains or other users

(I think I figured it out, with search and help from others.) Best documentation: https://developers.google.com/appengine/docs/domain It seems that ...

You can use three types of hostnames to access the google application:

  • Default hostname / domain name .appspot.com
  • New host / domain name managed and hosted by google
  • The host / domain name that you have / belongs to another source

The last two cases (except for the default host name) seem too accessible only for “paid” business applications. The process of adding a domain (case 3 for your own existing domain) requires that you create a (paid) business application and (coincidentally) manage Google email for the domain.
