MPMusicPlayerController / AVPlayer, iTunes Match & Notifications

IOS music app development. Trying to figure out what might be possible. I need background notifications (for an external application I need this, since I have to start a little background when the current item changes), as well as the ability to play songs coming from iTunes Match. So far I have read MPMusicPlayerController and AVPlayer. None of them seem to fit my needs.

In short:

  • MPMusicPlayerController can play songs from iTunes Match, but cannot perform background notifications outside the application.

  • AVPlayer can provide background notification outside the application, but cannot play songs from an iTunes match.

Are there any problems that I don’t know about? Any suggestions?

A good solution has ended for my needs. Choose MPMusicPlayerController to play songs from iTunes Match, while deciding whether to receive background notifications and checking for specific properties of changes when you re-enter the application.
