What is drive initiated authorization?

On the "About authorization" page in the documentation on the Google Drive SDK, there is a section called "Drive initiated authorization." Apparently, I can let Google Drive handle the auth stream for my application. How can I use or not use this?

A drive-initiated drive occurs when your application integrates with the Drive user interface and the user selects your application from the Create New or Open With menu.
