Failed to start the MSSQLSERVER service on the server (mscorlib)

I tried restarting the remote SQL server (2012 full) and I got this error:

Unable to start the MSSQLSERVER service on the server (mscorlib)

Every time I try, I get this message. How can i fix this?

It appears that the service is not configured correctly.
Try the following:

  • Run services.msc
  • Find the MSSQLSERVER service.
  • Right click and open properties
  • Check which service account is running under it (usually NTAUTHORITY \ SYSTEM, NTAUTHORITY \ LOCAL SERVICE or NTAUTHORITY \ NETWORK SERIVICE if you are not using it under a different account for security purposes).

In addition, they may have moved in 2012, I am still on 2008 R2

I got the same error message for several days. I went to my domain controller and changed the sql server agent password and updated the password in the configuration manager. And it is connected.
