It appears that the service is not configured correctly.
Try the following:
- Run services.msc
- Find the MSSQLSERVER service.
- Right click and open properties
- Check which service account is running under it (usually NTAUTHORITY \ SYSTEM, NTAUTHORITY \ LOCAL SERVICE or NTAUTHORITY \ NETWORK SERIVICE if you are not using it under a different account for security purposes).
In addition, they may have moved in 2012, I am still on 2008 R2
