Does GAE not free memory after processing a request?

Why is this happening?

I run a task that uses a lot of memory - after the task is completed, I expect the memory to be released back to the instance.

However, this does not happen. The memory just keeps going up and up during the next task, until in the end I get a warning about soft memory.

What can I do about this? It just doesn't make sense. I tried to explicitly call gc.collect() , but that will not help.

Just as dragonx wrote every handler that was launched, every global variable, imports are cached in GAE, so how long does your instance work as hard as it is. You can reconfigure your application settings to quickly create new instances and kill old ones. This will give you a small chance to minimize this error. This error should not be filled due to memory leaks. Many people think that this will affect this, so you should check your code, try reconfiguring your instance parameters, and perhaps you should change the instance type to a higher level.
