How to animate every character in a math equation using html5

Question

I want to animate the mathjax chemical equation in my html template. The animation should transform one equation of form into another form of the equation (for example, converting co2 to c2h2 by adjusting the space).

for example: 3c2h2 -----> c6h6 in this equation I want to change c6h6 to co2 to adjust (compress) the space. where co2 will be animated from any part of the page and before it takes c6h6 , c6h6 will be shortened to fit co2 . I am not able to do this, can someone help me with this.
