SmartDevice CAB "is not a valid Windows CE installation file"

(This can be considered a continuation of my question here. )

After successfully creating a CAB configuration file for my WCE5 handheld device (Datalogic Memor laser scanner), I tried to install it. However, when starting CAB, the device gives me the following error message:

File \ Setup.CAB is not a valid Windows CE installation file

I have no idea why this suggests this, especially since I created a CAB file using the VS08 "Smart Device CAB Project" template.

Is there any tweak that I missed when creating the CAB? All I did was add the output file that needs to be installed and add a shortcut to the desktop using the pansy icon.

The project also targets Windows CE, and deploys and debugs Memor.

Is it a CAB file compression? In the Smart Device CAB project, there is the “compress” option, which can be disabled.

This option may cause this error, because not every version of CE can handle compressed settings.

I also had a problem with the CE 6.0 project (OS version 8.2).

Memoranda are present in versions of Windows Mobile 6.1 or Windows CE 5.0.

Memor overview

Are you sure your device uses CE, not Mobile?

The device’s desktop for Windows Mobile will look something like the screenshots below, because I can’t install the CE SDK right now (I have too many other applications open). You can confirm your Windows Mobile device by clicking [Start]> [Settings]:

Start settings

Go to the [System] tab and select [About]:

System about

On mine, you can see that I'm stuck in WM5.

WM5

Unlike a regular Windows CE device, the screen will look like this image I found on Google:

WinCE

OTHER UPDATE:

Perhaps your project is installed on Windows Mobile, as shown below?

WinMobleProject

If this is a Windows CE project, you need to target the Windows CE platform.

I cannot install the Windows CE SDK on my machine. Yesterday I discovered that it should run on Windows XP.

** Friday Update **

Try creating a different deployment project (you don’t need to complete the wizard) and see if you have the Windows CE option, for example, Target platform , as in fig. "Step 2" below (I not).
