List of devices for camera using python

Question

I will need to capture a video stream from an analog connection (RS-232, S-video or composite) for processing it in OpenCV. Is it possible to get a list of available such cameras using python? It seems that videocapture lib can display a list of available devices, but I'm not sure if this includes devices connected by other means than usb . At least, as of 2011, it would seem that such functionality is not included in OpenCV (link here ). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had a similar problem with an IP camera. You can try setting up a feedback device with Gstreamer, for example here . You can use Google for more examples.
