Installing the WordPress Plugin in the Google Appengine SDK

Question

I installed WordPress 3.5.1 on the Google Appengine SDK version 1.8.1. Notice I have ubuntu 12.04. WordPress works great; I create posts, upload images, etc. My problem is this:

I can activate and deactivate plugins, but the admin panel does not allow me to add a new plugin.

I realized that to install the plugins I need to go to

http://localhost:8080/wp-admin/plugin-install.php 

. But when I get there, I get the following message:

 You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page. 

I realized that this problem is related to the administrator role.

I wp_usermeta my database ... I went to the wp_usermeta table → looked at the meta_key column with the wp_capabilities row. meta_value - a:1:{s:13:"administrator";b:1;} . Also, the value of wp_user_level is 10 . Note that user_id is 1 , which is the admin user_id.

I also went to the wp_options table → looked at the option_name column with the wp_user_roles row. option_value -

To find out if there are any problems with WordPress 3.5.1. I installed the Apache server and tested WordPress there. Everything works fine, and I can install plugins from the admin panel. I think this problem is related to the Appengine SDK. At the moment, I install the plugins manually, loading them into the wp-content/plugins folder ...

Has anyone been able to install plugins through the WordPress admin panel 3.5.1 running on the Appengine SDK?

I think this is blocked by the Google App Engine plugin. I do not think that would be easy to do. it’s best to upload plugins to your local environment and then run the appcfg.py update - but I might be wrong and like the easier way ...

The Google App Engine file system is not writable. To install WordPress plugins, you must add them to your plugins folder locally and then deploy your application using appcfg.py or gcloud . After deployment, you can go to the plugins page and activate them.

Note You want this local copy of WordPress to be convenient because you will need to install custom themes and plugins. Because of the security sandbox, your live WordPress site cannot write to local files - they are static. This means that the automatic installation of themes and plugins on the WordPress toolbar will only work on the local WordPress that you run on your own machine. Therefore, be sure to do everything that you install locally, and then redeploy the WordPress application. [1]
