Connect the new device (RF Card reader) to the Android device

Question

I am trying to understand one concept in Android devices, which is to connect new equipment to an Android device. How is this possible? without bluetooth. Suppose I have one RF card reader, and I want to read RF-ID cards using this equipment, and I want to show this number (RF ID) for my Event. how is this achievable? If possible, then how? Do we need to install drivers for this?

Any help would be appreciated

Take a look at the Square Card reader - it is connected to the microphone jack - no drivers are required.
