Conduit Search was accidentally installed, and now my Firefox displays a Bing page, not 404

It was unintentional of me. I installed the DivX update, and the “Install blah blah” checkbox (I just looked quickly) was checked by default - on Mac OS, some windows and the application can steal my focus from me, so if I press ENTER, I enter, say , TextWrangler, but the installer window only steals my focus before I press ENTER and the "Install Conduit Search" is already checked, well, this add-on will be installed before I can stop it! I hate this behavior on Mac OS passionately.

Now I am trying to remove it. Mostly because I hate the fact that Bing is everywhere. I hate bing too.

Anyway, I followed instructions here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/713710 and here: http://community.conduit.com/Community/Forum/Community-Toolbar.aspx? threadid = 35114 , but about: config contains nothing but "add-ons", extensions or plug-ins ... and does not execute / Library / InputManager /

Currently, I have removed all the Bing and Conduit traces found in the Search Engine Management section and anything: config, but page 404 is still redirected to "Oops! Page not found. Try to give it another chance below." and the bottom of the page says, “Why did I get this page?” When I click on “Why did I get this page?”, It tells me because I installed the “Community Toolbar”, which I assumed I did, but I see no signs of what was happening. The plugin and extension settings for my Firefox do not contain anything that I am not familiar with, and, of course, do not contain anything about Conduit or Community, or even the toolbar. If I go to View> Toolbars, only Navigation and Bookmarks are listed there. There is an “add-on panel”, but when I turn on / off, it appears only for my 1Password application.

I'm at a dead end. I like to keep my browsers harsh and average, and not install any of this shit. I'm not sure why I decided to install DivX in the first place, but this is another lesson the other day.

The goal is to get rid of this Conduit / Bing shit. Conduit customer service does not quite exist, as expected.

The only sign that it exists is when I go to the URL and get page 404, it leads me to search.conduit.com, not just page 404. In about: config there is a key called “alternate_error_page”, but its value is "blocked", which means "about: blocked", as you can see why the page was blocked.

I don’t know where else to turn. Please help!

I found him!

Here: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/searchplugins/

There is a file called Conduit Search.xml . I deleted it and my browser is now 100% back to normal.

Jeffrey's answer is the ultimate missing piece. I was still getting the conduit search page when I went to page 404 on the website until I found his answer. Thank you You save my day.

And the culprit is the DivX installer on the Mac. If you just installed it and are stuck with this devil, be sure to check this page to remove it. http://forums.divx.com/divx/topics/bing_search_page_appears_when_opening_a_new_tab_window_on_firefox_macos

Open the Firefox browser and enter "about: config" in the address bar. Now you can see the list of "Preference Name" elements and its values. Now enter "search" in the filter window on top of this window ... Check the contents of all lines as "CONDUIT" - and rightclick- reset ..

Removing /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/browser/MACSearchTakeOver.js and /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/searchplugins/Conduit Search.xml did not /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/searchplugins/Conduit Search.xml channel search for displaying on new tabs for me.

What finally fixed this for me was clicking Restore in the lower left corner of the intruder page.
