Can I save local repositories on Dropbox without a remote repo?

A few questions have already been asked about using Dropbox to host a bare repo.

My question is different and much simpler. I am a social scientist with a small code - I save all my data and code on Dropbox, synchronized on home and work computers. Can I just use GIT for version control without a remote repo?

Since all .git files are synchronized along with my actual files, the local working repositories in all Dropbox folders (at home and at work) are identical and functional, right?

You can try using bitbucket.org to host git. I allow private git repositories and mercury repositories. It seems like this would be a better experience than using dropbox.
