MATLAB r2013a on Mac OS 10.8.3 crash while viewing documentation

(Launch of MATLAB 8.1.0.604 (R2013a), Mac OS 10.8.3)

When I use the doc command, for example, doc fwrite; , or when I click on the “more help” element in the tooltip for the team, the documentation window opens, but MATLAB subsequently freezes (the beach ball appears to spin). It lasts forever, and I am inevitably forced to leave MATLAB. This also happens when using the Publish option from the editor.

Anyone have any ideas for diagnosing this? I tried to take a sample of the process, but I did not see any information that I could interpret, I think, since it is in Java, the corresponding information is obfuscated by the JVM.

See this post at MatlabCentral: http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/71718 ... and more specifically this bug report that includes a workaround. They do not suggest what might be the reason, but you can make sure that OS X is updated and that you have the latest version of Java . If you are doing other work with Java or using WebKit, this can cause problems.

Hope you have already solved the problem. Otherwise, a solution has been found, the error is in Access for Assistive devices (only for version 2012b and higher). If you can disconnect them from system settings, do it. If you cannot, enter it in the command window: com.mathworks.mlwidgets.html.HtmlComponentFactory.setBrowserProperty ('JxBrowser.BrowserType', 'Mozilla15');

I had the same problem with Matlab R2014a on OS 10.10.4. For me, the solution was to turn off Cinch (the window management tool I installed). This can be done by clicking the Cinch icon in the menu bar, then disabling Cinch or from the system settings> Security and Privacy> Accessibility (as indicated in his MarcoB answer).

More suitable as comments (but so far I have not enough reputation):

I just upgraded to Java 1.8.0_73 and Safari 9.1, and the fixed horchler file no longer works.

The MarcoB team is still working to fix the crashes. But with that, there’s no more retina resolution in the Doc browser (so it looks ugly).
