Where did the .target directory come from in my Play 2.1.1 project?

I am just starting to work with the Scala / Play 2.1.1 / Scala -IDE stack, and I was confused about why my Play 2.1 project project contains both the target directory and the .target directory. The .gitignore promotion properly ignores the target directory. but not .target.

Where does it come from, what does this mean, and should it also be included in .gitignore?

.target is the directory configured to output Eclipse SBT (when using the SBT eclipse command).

According to this problem, they choose this name (not the same as the SBT target directory) to avoid compiling Eclipse and SBT into the same directory.

You can include it in your .gitignore.
