Should I study node.js before starting to work with a meteorite?

I come from a java background and I recently needed an application with real-time data and click. Therefore, I am thinking about using a meteorite, as it seems to be an easier way to use node.js.

My question is: do I need to know node.js before working with a meteorite? and this is a meteorite, now suitable for a production application (I know that it has not reached 1.0, but from your experience, what do you think)

Thanks.

Meteor does not require knowledge of node.js in order to efficiently build applications if you stay within the boundaries of Meteor abstracts for you.

The meteor is very young, but the "readiness for production" depends on what the application is. Can I write a real-time banking application with him right now? No. Is it ready for MVP, demos, and simple consumer apps? Of course, as long as you understand its limitations.
