How do podspec honor the argument "head:"?

When I try to indicate that I want to pull out the latest version of the module, according to Cocoapods official Cocoapods , I list this in my podfile, like this:

 pod 'ReactiveCocoa', :head

Unfortunately, when I do this, I notice that most pods just pull out the version specified in their podspec, and not the last commit as desired. What podspec ads should head: get for the intended purpose?

Parameter :head deprecated. Use :git instead:

 pod 'AFNetworking', :git => 'https://github.com/AFNetworking/AFNetworking.git'
