Java 7 (update 7 and 9) on Mac OSX - print applets in tiny fonts

Question

As with Java 7, when you switch to printing from an applet, fonts stop being readable (super tiny). Previewing the same content on the screen is not a problem, but a font issue appears when printing the content.

On this page:

• press the preview button to display the printable page. A.
• click the "Print ..." button, print on any printer, and you will see that the text information is simply printed as a dash (ultra-small font).

Any suggestions for fixing Java 7 printing from applets.

BTW: This is a problem for Lion and Mountain Lion with Java 7, it works fine with a full Java application, as well as applets on Windows and OSX with Java 6

It might be something similar to this question , although in this case it is Oracle on mac versus oracle on Windows. It seems that rendering for Java 7 is implemented differently and you get smaller fonts.
