Does copy protection make sense for a free application?

My free app takes up 2x of my device’s space because it has copy protection on Google Play.

I did not turn it on. I am wondering if necessary. The 2x space is very negative and I would like to disable it.

I also know that copy protection is outdated and LVM is recommended instead, but I don't know if this is suitable for my use. Maybe I just need to disable copy protection.

There is probably no reason other than the need to protect the code? But I don’t think I have abnormally outstanding code there, only good programming and some clever tricks :)

In any case, does it make sense to use copy protection / LVM or just disable it?

To protect the code a bit, maybe just getting confused with ProGuard?

In particular, with the ease of rooting the device and copying it anyway, obfuscation is your friend here, especially if copy protection makes your application much bigger. And copying the protection of a free application is senseless anyway, no? I would just turn it off and get confused if you are worried.

Neither copy protection nor obfuscation will help against a particular attacker with some skills and cheap time. I would be more worried and embarrassed if no one copied my free expression (in fact, I have no problems with it, if someone does not try to steal copyright - but I make money from programming for money, so applications are my showcase)

Copy protection is usually used to prevent unauthorized copying, which basically means 1 purchase of 10 installations. If your application is free, you do not need to use any type of copy protection, because it doesn’t matter where you got your application from. Thus, none of the outdated playback mechanisms, nor LVL, nor anything else of this type will be used in the case of a free application like yours.

People who use good programming and clever tricks tend to share their knowledge with the community. Hiding them will make you neither happy nor rich.

I see very little point in using any kind of protection.
