Why doesn't Eclipse ADT recognize my Android device in windows?

I already have ADT installed. I know that in the past I ran some applications on my device (Moto Droid4), but today ADT does not seem to recognize that I connected it.

I have the "USB Debugging" checkbox turned on. It is connected to a USB port on a laptop. When I first plugged it in, the laptop raised a few dialogs, asking me what I wanted to do with it, and all that I rejected.

I tried to restart Eclipse, but it still does not list the device in the "Devices" list in the DDMS perspective.

I tried following the instructions of http://developer.android.com/tools/extras/oem-usb.html#Win7 to find out if there is a problem with my USB driver, but it does not show my device in the device list.

What could be wrong here?

I have had this problem many times. My solution every time was to remove the devices using USBDeview. Launch the application as an administrator, and then sort by name. Find the devices that match your phone, and then remove these devices through the right-click menu.

Insert the phone back and tell the driver to search to skip receiving from Windows Update. You should start soon.

You need to install the correct driver for your device. Only then can your Eclipse detect your device to run the application on it.

How to install the driver and how can I make sure it is installed?

  • Go to the computer (right-click) → Management → Device Manager.
  • If your device is classified in “other devices” or “portable device” something is wrong. Double-click on the specified device in the device manager. Inside, check your driver details.
  • If the driver data is missing or the button is not available, the driver is not installed. If you need to update it.
  • Windows will automatically do this for you. If not, you can click the icon when searching for a device driver and select "install the most suitable driver automatically."
  • In each case specified in clause 3, the end result should be that after installing your driver (remember about any suitable driver if your device driver is not available). Your device must be listed in the "Android USB Devices" category
  • Now you can be sure that ADT will detect your device.

PS: I mentioned any suitable driver because in my case I had a Micromax A69 (ICS) and it installed the HTC driver. After that, Android ADT began to detect my device. I am using Windows 7. Screen attachment is for reference only -

To do this, you first need to troubleshoot:

  • Have you tried to restart your phone and PC?
  • Do you have debugging enabled on your phone, but does it display a debugging notification when connected?
  • Is the device listed under Device Manager ( devmgmt.msc )?
  • From cmd you see it with adb kill-server and adb devices ?

Try changing the USB setting to "Charge Only".

The Mass Storage installation takes control of the SD card from the phone when connected.

Although I should note that even when my phone is set to "Mass Storage", it appears ... I just can not start the application through Eclipse. Of course, maybe the other phones are different, so I think it's worth a try.

I think this might help someone. I did the following for my moto x.

  • The Motorola device manager is installed, in which all device drivers in the system are installed.
  • The device was now recognized, but was detected as a storage device.
  • Now go to the device manager in my case, the device was listed as portable devices.
  • Right-click on the device, update the software driver.
  • select "Browse my computer for driver software."
  • select "Let me select a list from the list of device drivers on my computer."
  • Two options: a USB MTP device will be shown, and another.
  • Install both. Now you can see that your device under the Android device was good in the device manager.
  • Now kill the Adb process by making sure that the adb process is not running and closes eclipse if it is running.
  • At the command prompt, run the adb kill-server and adb start-server commands.
  • Then, after providing the initial adb server, an authorization prompt will appear on your device.
  • After selecting yes, the voila ur device is recognized, and you can check it in the adb devices command, since your device will be installed as a device.
  • Now run eclipse and you will see your device along with emulators.

I had this error with my LG Optimus L3 phone connected to Win7 / 8 machines!

Problem: My Android device is not recognized by Eclipse ADT, why?

Reason: The device driver was missing, as it was at the end, when I fixed it!

How to fix:

  • Search over the Internet (using Google) " LG <Your_Phone_Model Number> Download drivers " (example: - Go to the section "About the phone in the settings list > " Number, for me it is LG-E400f)
  • Basically, the first few links are related to the required device driver download page (for example: for me I got the following link and for each LG device driver or most other manufacturers / manufacturers have such a manual and driver page) Visit this page for software updates and loading drivers.
  • Scroll down to the " Manuals and software updates " section, and for me, just Step 1 is enough, namely: "Install USB DRIVERS "
  • Download it (for Mac or Windows) Install it . Test your Eclipse ADT and it should be visible on the "Devices" tab Now

Hooray!!!
Hope this helps someone else clearly solve the problem!

This problem can also occur due to a faulty USB-microusb cable (what happened to me). I guessed that it was a cable malfunction (not the drivers) when the SD card storage was not even mounted when I connected the cable (but it’s amazing that the cable still worked correctly on energy, because it was charged correctly by the battery, and LED lights up accordingly).
