Opening Excel.xlsx file in IE and subsequent built-in hyperlinks to the file server

I have an intranet site that allows users to open files in a browser (by requesting a download). One of these files is a .xlsx workbook containing hyperlinks that point to different file locations (.pdfs, .docs) on the file server where the .xlsx workbook is located.

It seems that the file server path to the workbook has been replaced with the "Temporary Internet Files / Content.IE5 /" path, leading to the warning "cannot open the specified file" in Excel.

I tried downloading the Excel document first and then following the links, but they still open in a temporary Internet location

EDIT:

For example, when pointing at excel hyperlinks, they read: "file: /// C: \ Documents and Settings \% username% \ Local Settings \ Temporary Internet files \ Content.IE5 \ 40WSS3CB \" + filename

when they should read: "file: /// \ server_name \ Departments \ Read \" + file_name

How can I open an excel file in a browser and save hyperlinks inside and not replace them with a temporary path to Internet files?

Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

I did some testing, and it almost happens due to how you store links. If you look at the Insert hyperlink dialog, you will end up with relative URLs. That is, the general database is stored as a link to the current xlsx file path, and the remainder is stored and displayed as a link.

You are completely getting into the problem Richard Hare is talking about, so you should help with the procedure from the Microsoft support site . At least this is a trick in my test.

UPDATE to take stock. comments: One way to solve this problem, if possible, is to open the xlsx file from your network share, and not through the website. If for some reason this is forbidden, you can update the links using a macro.

Do you have the option "Refresh links when saving"?

In an earlier version of Excel, it was installed in Tools, Options, General Tab, Web Settings Options, Files Tab.

Try unchecking and saving the document.

I just did the same task on my server (the one I understood):

Upload a hyperlink to asp.net.

 <p> <a href="Book1.xlsx">test</a><br /> </p>

In the file "book1.xlsx" there is a cell that refers (hyperlinks) to some shared directory (ie \\NHSTXX1\TEST\MS OFFICE EXCEL - \\SERVERNAME\FOLDER\OTHER FOLDER )

And when I clicked on the cell hyperlink, he opened the folder that I was looking for.

I tried with Firefox.

hope this help

Hyperlinks should not just mysteriously change. I saved the excel file with a hyperlink in it - opened it with html - saved it - will open it again in excel - and the link will remain the same. Therefore, I am not sure how this can happen to you (if I understand your situation correctly).
