Add a group to an existing MS Office ribbon tab

I am looking for a way to programmatically add a group to an existing tab (for example, the developer tab in my case) of the Microsoft Office Word 2010 ribbon.

Unable to find useful examples on the Internet. Are these types of settings allowed in MS Office 2010, and if you could provide any useful links or code examples, how can I do this?
