Install SQL Server Management Studio 2008 - no option

It is good that I searched everywhere for an answer and cannot find an answer.

I installed VS 2010 and with it came SQL Server 2008 Express. I am currently trying to install SQL Server Management Studio 2008 and it will not give me the opportunity to install.

At first I thought that I need to install SP1 first .. but it says that there is nothing to fix!

My patch version for SQL: 10.1.2531.0

SQL Server 2008 Setup

EDIT: This is the installer that I am using: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7593

I had the same problem with my installation for RTM for SQL Server 2008 R2 - Management Studio Express . Return to the “Installation Type” step (previous) and carefully read the text under each switch. The option in the “New Install or Add General Features” section says:

Select this option if you want to install a new instance of SQL Server or want to install common components such as SQL Server Management Studio or Integration Services .

You need to select "New Installation" and not "Add Features" as it may seem non-intuitive.

Take a one-step backup and select the option “Run a new installation”. Brilliant, I know.

As far as I remember, Management Studio does not come with every version of SQL Serever 2008 Express installer. Maybe you could try installing this code: Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 Management Studio Express or this is Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM - Management Studio Express depending on your version of the server.

I encountered this failure. The list of general functions should display [✓] Controls - Basic. The checkbox was automatically populated.

I rebooted, then ran the installer as an administrator and worked as expected.
