This is impossible AFAIK, but I believe that you can just pause your computer and the processes will be automatically suspended.
If you are using Linux, you can also stop and continue the process manually using the killall -STOP R and killall -CONT R . Take a look at this article and the comments section containing helpful information about this.
On Windows, you can probably use the task manager or install special software that can do this. But I really do not know, because I do not use Windows on a regular basis.
EDIT: even if you use kill or killall to pause the process, but turn off the computer, you will lose data.
