If you include a link to a specific version of Microsoft Outlook (or any other software, for that matter), and the end user has a later version of this software, the link will continue to work, provided that the provider of this software correctly configured version inheritance and did not interrupt the changes.
However, if the end user has an earlier version of the software (such as Outlook), the link will not work, so you need to configure the link to the earliest version of this software that you are going to support.
This way you can avoid late binding in general and still allow multiple versions of the linking software.
You just need to be careful not to update links to older versions of your referenced software, to newer versions, or you could split your book for users with older versions of software.
