In New Relic RPM, I get reports with the Apdex index. What is the meaning of the index?

This sounds funny, but New Relic RPM reports the Apdex index in the form:

0.92 (3.5)

Where 3.5 is indexed.

What does 3.5 mean? I can’t find a definition anywhere, and yet there he is in my reports, looking in my face.

The number in parentheses / indexed numbers is the threshold value (in seconds) for your Apdex metric. So, in your case, if the full application response (page loading) is less than 3.5 s, then this satisfies the requirement. If your application responds more slowly than the threshold, then Apdex affects your score.

This threshold is customizable, so you can choose what suits your application type.

You can learn more about Apdex in our docs.

The subscript is your target response time for this level. In the user agent (browser), the high water mark is 7 seconds. You should check only US-Only and make this number 2 to 4 seconds for world class.

The application server tier should respond much faster. The default high water mark set by NR is 0.5 seconds or 500 milliseconds, with an average world-class page buffer level of 50-200 ms on average.

Remember that all this information refers to aggregated averages, and not to instance data, which will have a lot of outliers and be widespread.
