Can we ad-hoc distribute the MAC application?

I am very new to developing apps for Mac. I noticed that there is not much information about how MAC applications are developed and distributed. I have some basic questions.

Can we distribute / sell the assembly of Mac applications for (Mac app-store) directly to customers?

Or can we use Mac application development tools to create an application that we can distribute without application storage?

I think you can distribute MacOSX applications (without iOS) without application storage.

You can create and distribute your Mac application, but you want to.

If (and only if) you want to distribute through the App Store, you need to pay Apple for this, pay for the developer account and follow the rules in the App Store, but you can still distribute the application in any way you want next to it; Mac App Store distribution deal is not exclusive.

You can distribute Mac apps without the Mac Store. However, if your application wants to use iCloud, you need to distribute it through the Mac App Store (or deliver the AdHoc distribution to Mac computers registered on your computer, limited to 100 development machines per year). Only applications downloaded through the Mac App Store can access their iCloud container.

Also: you need to be a registered Mac App developer and sign your application if you want the gatekeeper to automatically open your application (starting with Mountain Lion 10.8.). Otherwise, users need to disable the gatekeeper, change its settings or (first) launch the application through the context menu> open.
