How to update the version of SVN used by git svn on Windows?

My company is in the process of upgrading SVN to 1.7. Checking git svn --version shows that the version of SVN used is 1.4.6. I would like to get the SVN version that git svn uses closer to 1.7. However, I have not seen instructions for updating the version of SVN that git svn uses (on Windows).

another thread I found that searching for answers seems to be Mac OSX user oriented. However, I did not see the Windows instructions for this update. Does anyone know how to properly update the version of SVN for git svn on Windows?

I assume that you are using mSysGit for Windows since I am using a recent installation, and git svn --version also lists v1.4.6 for me.

The reason you didn't see any instructions is because you are using the latest version of mSysGit. You cannot upgrade if you have nothing to update! You have several options:

• Do not worry. Everything will work as always, as the Subversion 1.7 server will work with the older client. Continuing to use your version of git svn will not cause more problems than at present, if at all.

• Use Cygwin . The version of Subversion that uses git svn for Cygwin is 1.7.4.

• Wait for the new version to be released. Given that mSysGit is still in Subversion 1.4.6, I would not hope so soon.

Starting with git1.7.8 (October 2012), git svn will officially work with SVN1.7

I noticed that the git version that I installed from GitHub ( http://windows.github.com/ ) had svn 1.7, but mSysGit 1.8.1.2 still had svn 1.4.

Upon further verification, I noticed that GitHub for Windows does not come with svn! Turns out he was building my version of the svn command line, which I installed on Windows separately.

Removing all svn * files from the mSysGit / bin directory had the same effect. It will pick up any version of svn that you installed on Windows (assuming it is on PATH).
