Visualization of planar sections in MATLAB

I wrote a simple MATLAB script to create a 50x50 $ D $ matrix, which is a flat section .

Partitions of planes are usually represented graphically as stacks of cubes. How to implement this visualization in MATLAB? I played with the HIST function to no avail. I approached the grid (D), but the results were pretty ugly ...
