Text version of Facebook Like a button?

Does anyone feel that the Facebook Like button is too invading the user interface? Like it doesn't fit, like it's some kind of cheap plastic thing?

Has anyone ever used JS or something to make any alternatives like plain text? If so, has anyone ever done any A / B testing to make sure it works equally well with the original?

Also, would it violate Facebook TOS by saying: β€œYou should not hide or embrace elements of our social plugins, such as the Like button or the Like box plugin?

Thanks!

Make text links for Facebook and Twitter and use CSS to make your style. Here's how to create links (with pop-ups of the appropriate size):

http://jsfiddle.net/c6XQT/

Here is the code:

<a href="JavaScript:window.open('http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http://jsfiddle.net','','width=657,height=400,scrollbars=1')">Like</a> <a href="JavaScript:window.open('https://twitter.com/share?url=http://jsfiddle.net&text=Check out this link:','','width=450,height=350')">Tweet</a>

The only modifications allowed to the Like button (and all other social plugins) are the capabilities achieved through the code generation interface http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/

Well, that’s what I came up with. A little googling did the trick

http://jsfiddle.net/HqA3H/24/

In the fiddle after the script tags you can see

var fbURL = "http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href=http://www.lolwhuuutwtf.com&show_faces=trace&width=450&action=like&colorscheme=light";

Change www.lolwhuuutwtf.com to any link to your site and it will work just fine :) You can scroll down and see html, edit it according to your needs, but don’t delete 'id = "flb" onclick = "insertLikeButton () ; " 'Because it runs javascript, etc.
