How to make mvn release: prepare projects with a flat structure?

I have a multi-module flat maven project, when I run mvn release:prepare , it returns with the following error:

 svn: '/parent/path' is not a working copy

I found this to be a known issue with flat projects ( 261 and 516 ).

Is there any workaround?

I tried to get him to work on my previous project and eventually gave up and converted to a hierarchical structure in SVN. As you pointed out this is a well-known problem (or function) with SVN.

Some people suggested trying SVN 'links' , but I have not tried it myself.
