PHP update in XAMPP on MAC OSX

Question

I have searched several forums several times, and I have not found a definitive answer. I know that the development of XAMPP for MAC OSX has been suspended, but I was hoping that someone could describe the steps or point me to other resources.

I am currently using OSX 10.6.8, XAMPP 1.7.3 and PHP 5.3.1.

I suppose this question should also expand to update other components like phpmyadmin and mysql.

I use MAMP and Apache / MySQL / PHP, which works fine on my mac

Perhaps one of them will be easier to understand, since they are designed for Mac? Otherwise, sorry, I can not help!
