SEO - images and h1

I have a situation where I would like to use my logo instead of real text for my h1 tags. if I insert my keywords in the alt tag, instead of writing, I will suffer in SEO. Better to have both text and image? Thoughts?

<div id="hdr-top-logo"> <h1> <a href="/"> <img src="logo.jpg" alt="keywords and title" /> </a> </h1> </div>

SEO is speculative at best.

As a rule, the accepted agreement is to use where necessary, and you will not suffer. For example, I would write your code something like this:

 <div id="hdr-top-logo"> <h1> <a href="/" title="Blahblah.com logo"> <img src="logo.jpg" alt="Blahblah logo" /> </a> </h1> </div>

The benefits of using text instead of a logo will not be significant.

Note: alt + title should be descriptive , so donโ€™t just enter a bunch of keywords, otherwise you will suffer from SEO.

If you have access to CSS, the ideal approach is to replace your h1 tag with an image via css.

So you have this html:

  <h1 id="hdr-top-logo"> <a href="/"> </a> </h1>

and this css:

 #hdr-top-logo { width: width of logo.png here; height: height of logo.png here; background: url(logo.png); text-indent: 100%; white-space: nowrap; overflow: hidden; }

When used properly, this is completely friends with the search engine.

NB There are quite a few different methods for replacing images, this is the Scott Kellum method, as shown here http://css-tricks.com/examples/ImageReplacement/

You may want to take a look and conduct an experiment to find out which technique is best suited to your situation, there are various disadvantages in using different methods.

Yes, itโ€™s better for SEO to have text, since the crawler cannot read the text inside the images, but using viola somehow helps (not the same as text), but it definitely helps.

I suggest that you only place the appropriate heading on alt and use meta for keywords. Hope this helps. Alt will actually be displayed for people who cannot or do not want to see images. It also helps accessibility. Putting extraneous keywords in alt can potentially damage accessibility.

Best for SEO is to place text in the H1 tag and create a unique H1 function on each page. Try to limit your H1 tags to only 1 per page and let it describe the contents of this page, including all the secondary keywords of that particular page. Put these keywords as much as possible at the beginning of H1.

But when you really need to put the image in H1, it's best for you to provide as many title and alt attributes as possible, and let them contain your keywords.

So use this, for example:

 <h1> <a href="http://your.url" title="some text with keywords"> <img src="logo.jpg" title="some text with keywords" alt="some keyword" /> </a> </h1>

Hope this helps.
