SSRS 2008: How to define a Table / Tablix style without using a wizard?

Or how to change the table style (Tablix) in an existing report server project?

(I'm talking about the style that can be set in the Report Server Project Wizard)

The style selected as a step in the report wizard sets many properties for individual elements in the report. Once created, there is no easy way to switch a report from one style to another.

Two options:

  • Restore the report using the wizard and select a new style.
  • Create two reports using a simple dataset, and then compare the resulting .rdl (XML) file in a file comparison utility such as UltraCompare. This will give you a list of all the various properties.

The file used for style templates is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Business Intelligence Wizards\Reports\Styles\en\StyleTemplates.xml in my BIDS installation.

Examining this file may also show you changed properties.
