Looking for the builds you need to develop ADFS custom complaint conversion modules?

I want to create a custom claims conversion module from this link . Step 1 and 2 in this article: Add links to the System.Web.Security.SingleSignOn.ClaimTransforms.dll and System.Web.Security.SingleSignOn.Authorization.dll assemblies.

I can not find these assemblies. I installed WIF and WIF sdk on my laptop with Windows 7. After that, according to this discussion , I installed ADFS on a Windows 2008 R2 server. However, I could not find the assemblies there, even if you are viewing the GAC from the command line.

Can someone point me in the right direction to find these assemblies? There seems to be no ADFS sdk.

OK got it. The ease of installing the ADFS 2.0 download is insufficient. These assemblies can be located in the c: \ windows \ adfs \ bin \ ref directory, but only after the ADFS server role is enabled on the server. In my case, I had to do the following:

  • install the AD role
  • Activate the domain by running dcpromo.exe
  • Install ADFS Role

After that, the necessary assemblies were in the folder mentioned in another question. Both copying assemblies to my win7 dev machine and starting VS2010 in the (dev) W2K8r2 environment now works.

The Claimapp sample is written for ADFS, which comes with windows 2008 / (and R2). This is not for ADFS2.0 as one comment on the MS page. Active ADFS is included as a role, while ADFS2.0 is a separate installation β€” they use different methods (paths) to search for build modules. ADFS2.0 can work on its own - it does not need the ADFS role.
