Install New Software in Eclipse

I have a version of Indigo. When I go to Help> Install New Software, a window will appear. I choose a site (download.eclipse.org/releases/indigo). After that, nothing happens. In the lower right corner of the Eclipse window (and not the popup) there is a progress bar and it says “Retrieve Indigo Children” and it says that 2% and the progress indicator continues to move. After that, nothing happens. No errors, no notifications, nothing.

Has anyone had the same problem before or do you know how to fix it? Or can I download updates manually and put them in a specific directory?

Edit:

I decided to wait a while to think about Eclipse, and after 20 minutes nothing gave me this error:

Unable to read the repository http://download.eclipse.org/releases/indigo/content.xml . Unable to read the repository http://download.eclipse.org/releases/indigo/content.xml . The server download.eclipse.org was unable to respond

Is this a problem on the website?

Edit 2: This was a problem with the proxy / firewall configuration of the network I was connected to. This did not allow downloading files through Eclipse. I had to connect to another network and try, and it worked.

This must be a network problem. Verify the configuration is correct. This usually happens when you are behind a proxy server or firewall.

I had the same issue with the Eclipse Kepler version.

I was behind an HTTP proxy. The problem with my proxy was that it did not allow SOCKS traffic, but only HTTP and HTTPS traffic.

I solved in Eclipse as follows:

  • go to "Windows"> "Settings"> "General"> "Network Connections"

  • select Active Provider: Manual

  • fill in the Host and Port fields ONLY for HTTP and HTTPS proxy server entries; leave them blank for the SOCKS Proxy record.

My hypothesis is that if I fill in the SOCKS line, Eclipse will try SOCKS, which my proxy does not allow, and is stuck.

The same thing that my network did not allow Socks,

Filling in only the Host and Port fields for HTTP and HTTPS proxy entries; and leaving an empty SOCKS Proxy login space for me,
