Will “temporarily run out of control” allow me to safely maintain control of the VSS source?

If I transfer the solution to another computer and select the Temporarily Work Uncontrolled parameter from the SourceSafe plugin, can I move the project back to the source computer (by deleting the original solution on the source computer and replacing it with "temporarily" to work with an uncontrolled "copy of the solution") and wait, that it will sync with SourceSafe and enable all my changes?

Or is it too dangerous to try?

From my personal experience, I know that you will experience all sorts of oddities. VSS will refuse to synchronize some files and give conflicting errors for some others. In addition, if you want to add any new projects to the solution, they will not be synchronized when you copy the solution.

My personal advice is to run uncontrollably on another machine and create a .patch file (or any type of .diff file, for that matter) when you are done and bring it to the end and apply it to the original solution. The disadvantage is that all changes will appear in one set of changes.
