May be required Js may replace sprockets in rails 3.x - basic application

In the context of rails 3.2 rails with the base client application, I am trying to figure out how to organize javascript files. It is unclear whether requireJs can replace or use instead of asterisks. Reading this page on requireJs http://requirejs.org/docs/faq-optimization.html#usage makes me think that stars can be replaced. Asterisks are apparently used as a rails tool in an asset conveyor function.

To confirm my point, I saw this recent stone on github https://github.com/jwhitley/requirejs-rails . he suggested replacing asterisks with requireJS. Seems like a good starting point. Is there any athletic?

can stars appear and requireJs live happy together? - are there any advantages in this decision?
