How does this site know my GOOGLE search bar

I recently went to the WROX forum. GOOGLE brought me there. At the top of the page I received this message

Welcome, user. Your Google search for 'bosh iis' brought you to Wrox Forum

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how they could track this?

They can read the HTTP referrer header containing the search string.
