Can I overlay a list of zip codes on Google Maps?

I want to make a small mashup of Google Maps. I have a list of predominantly contiguous zip codes. I would like to open a web page with the built-in Google Maps and overlay zip codes on, say, a transparent green tile.

Is this possible with Google Maps? If so, can someone point me to an example.

I did some Fiddlering on several sites that do something similar, and they seemed to return a collection of polylines from their own sites. Can I do exclusively using Google Maps?

This should not be a problem, here is a site made a few years ago that displays all zip codes using google maps.
