The OSX nettop command line tool (I think it was added using Lion) can map application network bandwidth without requiring root privileges. I looked at Darwin's source code at http://www.opensource.apple.com/ , but could not find its source code. Is this open source at all or have I just skipped it. The inclusion of the source is not publicly available, does anyone have any ideas through which the nettop api gets its data?
nettop is open source only in the BSD version, but the Apple version uses its private NetworkStatistics infrastructure (new in Lion), so I doubt that you will find sources because Apple does not release closed source code.
