Check file update date using FTP functions?

Question

I need to get some files on a remote server, ftp-get.

However, the downloaded files have a weight (more than 50 MB).

So, I did not upload the file if the last update has not changed (so the toto.xml file is the same on two servers).

Can this be done using FTP functions?

ftp_mdtm () gets the last modified time for the remote file.
