How do I send promo codes for beta testing without making the app available on the App Store?

Last month I was asked to use beta testing of the utility.

The developer sent me a promo code, which I entered into the promo code field in iTunes. He then downloaded the application on my Mac, and I was able to sync it with my device. At that time, the application was not included in the App Store, but it certainly was from the App Store.

I did not send him the UDID of my device or something like this, so this is not Ad-Hoc.

Is there a way to send these promo codes when the application is in the status of "pending developer status"? Or should I approve the app and then quickly add it to the "Not for sale" status before it appears on the App Store? What a trick?

Closers: it’s so related to programming that you won’t believe it if I tell you. Because without an answer to this question, it will be more difficult to create great applications. Having a way to send friend promo codes for beta testing is VERY convenient and improves the development process.

ITunes Connect Frequently Asked Questions

When can I request promo codes for my latest version of the app? You will be able to request promo codes when your version of the application is approved and the status goes to Ready to Sale. At that time, you will be using promo codes to request promo codes.

Why can't I see the Promo Codes button for my application? Only iTunes Connect users with the Legal role can access promo codes and make requests for promo codes.

If you are logged into your iTunes connect account with the Legal role and the Promo Codes button for your application is still not displayed, the application cannot be approved. The Promo Codes button will only be displayed for approved applications with Ready to Sale status.

you can download the application without releasing it (it asks after clicking "ready to download"), and perhaps you can use promo codes

Regarding the promo codes, here is what I have done now:

  • I received the application while browsing, but marked it as a “manual release”
  • I received an approved application (it took about 12 days).
  • I requested a bunch of promotional codes from iTunesConnect that I received immediately
  • It is noted that they did not work in the (German) application store
  • (Maybe unrelated, maybe not: I sent a letter to iTunes to ask why they didn’t work. I haven’t answered yet.)
  • I went to my iTunesConnect account, saw that I did not have “contracts in action” and requested a contract for “iOS Paid Applications”. Which I received in an hour or so.
  • The promo code worked.
